Response to Mike Adams' 'Real Men'

As a life-long Republican I am well aware of our putative 'big tent'.  Still, it always makes my skin crawl to hear/read blow-hard suasion of the type put forth in this article: http://townhall.com/columnists/MikeSAdams/2008/08/25/real_men_dont_do_pornography

A couple of points, Mike: 1.) Don't patronize your readership by supposing what measures constitute a 'real man'.  The trouble our species has run into has often had much to do about certain conclaves' senses of moral objectivity -- and you know, even their moral sentiments have changed over time.  Much as Islamic extremism has led to the sanctification of murder, so once upon a time had Christian extremism.  2.) Society's fear (and yours) of human sexuality is another thing that has led to gross injustice.  Get out of others' bedrooms.  3.) You inadvertently, I think, make an excellent point about the death of the institution of marriage.  Marriage is dying.  The observation may seem sad as the firelake of hell, but all one need do is look around to note that it is true.  Perhaps, dare I say, it's simply a function of our evolution (if you care to give credence to such wild ideas).  Marriage has existed primarily to add stability to a greater institution as it were: child-rearing.  Marriage's secondary consideration, companionship and all it's attendants, is today far less important given the Western world's shift in view regarding cohabitation -- its acceptance as an alternative to the traditional marriage arrangement, like it or not.  4.) Your presumption of understanding as to the delicacy of the female mind and prerogative is amusing.  And your fear of the male's lack of control of reproduction is testament to the historical truth: Men don't get to choose, women do.

Mike, your divorced friend's inability to find a woman without 'baggage' has to do with the fact that 1.) all humans of a certain age carry some baggage, and 2.) like many men, he is likely confused about women's reactions to the male of the species because he treats women like children, instead of women.  To wit, your point about not engaging in 'post-marital' sex is patently ridiculous: You suggest that a man should forgo one of the primary spiritual enjoyments of his life because it might send his daughters the message that the only acceptable sexual expression is that of procreation within the bonds of holy matrimony.  This, when he is 'single'?  That sir, is not only idiotic, it is essentially retarded.  You are so fearful of female sexuality you would like us all to cut off our noses to spite our faces.  Last I checked, life neither ends at marriage, the birth of a child, or divorce.

Men need women, Mike.  We should make an effort to avoid shackling them in order to assuage the pain of our lack of reproductive control.  I suspect we are getting there, slowly.  And marriage is on the way out.

Take a breath.  It's going to be okay.
